Urban Farm Assistant

 

We’re looking for a passionate and hard working individual to join our team as a part time urban farm assistant. This position will include tasks such as harvesting (indoor and/or outdoors), prepping orders for our restaurant deliveries and farmers market, cleaning our indoor grow space and washing trays, and selling at the market. We’re looking for someone who is quick on their feet, enjoys manual labour, and has an eye for detail. This position is a part time, casual position with the potential to become full time in Spring/Summer of 2017.

 

Reclaim Urban Farm is a multilocational urban farm located in the heart of Edmonton. We grow a variety of leafy greens and vegetables outdoors from May to October and produce micro greens and shoots year round in an indoor grow space located within the SPUD.ca warehouse.

 

Responsibilities

  • Assisting with harvest and processing

  • Wednesdays:

    • Harvesting veggies (outdoors until approximately the end of October)

    • After outdoor harvests are done for the season, Wednesdays will become more micro green focused (indoor), including planting, cleaning, micro green care, as well as general labour and farm projects

  • Thursdays:

    • Harvesting micro greens and prep for restaurant deliveries

    • Cleaning our indoor grow space

    • Scrubbing out and washing plant trays used for planting micro greens

    • Compost management

  • Saturdays:

    • Occasional Saturdays through the winter (approx. 2 to 3 Saturdays per month)

    • Assist with winter farmers markets

    • Setup and tear down of product display

    • Sales and customer service

 

Skills

  • Ability to work quickly with an eye for detail and precision

  • Previous experience with manual labour is ideal; must be able to stand for long periods of time, perform physical labour on a daily basis, and regularly lift upwards of 25kg

  • Ability to work independently and as a positive member of a team

  • Reliable, hardworking, and dedicated

  • Experience in food prep, farming, or market gardening is an asset

  • Food safety certification is an asset

  • Interest in urban agriculture and passionate about sustainable food systems

 

Details

  • 15 to 25 hours per week

  • Mandatory work days: Wednesdays and Thursdays, plus 2 to 3 Saturdays per month

  • Hours: approximately 8am to 3pm

  • $14/hour

  • Potential for full time hours starting in Spring 2017

  • Start time: immediately
