Frequently Asked Questions...

What is a CSA?

Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a model that connects farmers and eaters – offering you the freshest seasonal food possible, while sharing the risks and rewards of farming among CSA members. Shareholders receive a weekly box, which varies in size and variety depending on the season, weather, and pests. While we sell veggies at farmers markets, retailers and restaurants we give the first picking to our CSA members, which means you get the first peas, the first carrots and do not have to be the first one at the market each week.

This model helps make farming more sustainable because it creates stronger linkages in the community, encourages people to eat seasonally, and helps to create a more vibrant local food economy. It also provides farmers with a much-needed influx of cash in spring, when we are spending lots of time and money putting crops in the ground that won’t be sold until the summer. CSAs are well suited to people who like to try new things, like learning about farming, like eating seasonally, and love to cook!

What if I can't pick up my box?

If you provide a weeks notice we can switch or extend the pickup to the end of the CSA so that it goes past your original end date. You can also send a friend or family member to pick up your box on your behalf. We will donate any boxes that haven’t been picked up by Sunday at 4pm to a local charity unless previously arranged. Last year we worked with leftovers Edmonton to get food to Hope mission, halfway houses, women's shelters and more.

Can I swap out things I do not like?

We have worked with people with allergies and will accomodate you in our selections for you boxes. Please let us know when you sign up and ask our staff for your particular box.

For others we allow any substitutions if you pick up at our farmers market locations or at the farm. For drop offs or pick up locations not at markets this is not possible. Thanks for understanding.

What's in the box?

Your box will vary week to week, containing approximately 5-10 kinds of veggies (Farm box (reg or large), or 3-5 veggies (salad box, vitality box) depending on the season. This will usually mean some type of salad greens, some root veggies, plus herbs, other seasonal vegetables, and the odd fruit. Expect to find some cool varieties, colours and shapes – we like unique and beautiful vegetables! Find a list of varieties hereWe are a certified organic farm so we do not use chemicals or pesticides and get inspected every year to make sure we are doing all that we can to grow safe, healthy food and protect the environment. Do you offer part boxes?

Yes!

Option 1, get our salad box or vitality box that runs all summer for smaller amounts.

Option 2, sign up for the weeks you want for any of our boxes/subscriptions on our online store. It is common for our vegetables to last 2 weeks in a fridge. Many people will get our regular share every two-three weeks.
